I began my career in law enforcement in 1975 when ljoined the Huntingdon Police Department. l attended the Tennessee Law Inforcement Training Academy in 1976. During my tenure with the Huntingdon Police Department, l was promoted to Sergeant and Police Firearms lnstructor. l was a member of a multi-agency SWAT team and l competed in police pistol combat matches on behalf of the Huntingdon Police Department. The highlight of my shooting competition was winning the Gold Medal in police combat marksmanship, while participating in the Tennessee Police Olympics.
l joined the McKenzie Police Department in 2000 and was promoted to Sergeant/Shift Supervisor the next year. In 2002 l established McKenzie‘s first (S.R.T.) Special Response Team. The (S.R.T.) team has been utilized on dozens of high risk incidents, including drug raids, “high risk” fugitive warrants, suicidal persons and barricaded suspects. In 2002 l became the primary Police Firearms Instructor for the department. Later, I was promoted to the position of Criminal Investigator. In January of 2011 l was promoted to rank of Lieutenant.
My current responsibilities are supervising the Criminal Investigations, Narcotics Enforcement and Patrol Divisions. I am also the primary Criminal Investigator and S.R.T. “Special Response Team” Commander.
During my law enforcement career I have received many hours of specialized training from the FBI T.B.l.. US. Department of Justice, Secret Service and others in the following areas; Crisis Intervention-Conflict Management. Mental Preparation for Armed Confrontations, Special Weapons and Tactics, Active Shooter Response, Case Investigations, High Risk Entries, Less Lethal Weapons, Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Investigation.
I grew up in McKenzie and graduated from McKenzie High School in 1971. Shortly thereafter, I attempted to join the McKenzie Police Department and was told that I was too young. Later, I received an opportunity to join the Huntingdon Police Department. After twenty~four years of service with the Huntingdon Police Department, I was given the opportunity to return to my home town and join the McKenzie Police Department.
After entering the law enforcement profession, I declined several opportunities to accept law enforcement employment in other areas of the country. I wanted to make my career in law enforcement in my home county. It has been a privilege to “Protect & Serve” the citizens of McKenzie and Carroll County during my law enforcement career.
My son. Eric, also chose a career in law enforcement. He is currently serving with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department as a Sergeant/Shift Supervisor and Training Officer.
